Facebook Insights You Should Be Paying Attention to

Creating and implementing your Facebook strategy is definitely important in improving the overall quality and return of investment on your business page, but how are you making sure your game plan is actually working? While there is no clear answer to that question, the first and quite possibly the most crucial first step is to check your Insights.

At first glance, it may all look like a bunch of numbers and marketing jargon you may not understand right away. However, getting to know your Insights, including each of the metrics it keeps track of, what they mean and how they relate to each other will more than likely give you a better understanding of the effectiveness of your posts and Facebook strategy. Here’s the good news, we’re not here to overwhelm you, we’re here to help by breaking down Facebook Insights piece by piece below.

Overview

This is the first page you see when you get to your Insights. It’s basically a one stop for all to your page’s data for the last 1 day, 7 days or 28 days. No, there is no custom date feature here. Trust us, we’ve tried! Nevertheless, there’s still a lot of good metrics to digest here like:

Page Views - the number of times a page has been viewed by logged in and logged out people

Page Likes - the number of new people who've liked your page, broken down by organic and paid page likes

Post Reach - the number of people who saw any of your posts at least once

Story Reach - the number of people who had any stories from your page on your screen, broken down by total, organic and promotions

Recommendations - the number of times people recommended your page

Post Engagements - the number of times people engaged with your posts through reactions, comments, shares and clicks

Videos - the number of times your page's videos played for at least 3 seconds, or for nearly their total length if they're shorter than 3 seconds, broken down by total, paid and non-paid

  • Note: Replays are excluded!

Page Followers -  the number of new people who followed your page broken down by paid and non-paid.

  • Note: These numbers are estimates and may not be exact!

You’ll also find data on your 5 most recent posts including the reach and engagements they received as well as some suggestions of competitors to watch.

If you’re looking to dive a little deeper into the data and start breaking metrics down by date or even demographics, you’ll find all of this nested under Overview or you can simply click on the metrics on your Overview Insights and you’ll be taken to a more in depth report of that metric. Each of these metric specific pages will generally break down the data collected by a variety of different aspects. You can get more detailed reports on:

  • Followers

  • Likes

  • Reach

  • Page Views

  • Actions on Page

  • Post Reach and Engagement

  • Movies/Videos Clicks

  • Story Performance

  • People
